Why people use AI Rewrite & Rephrase

Rewrite is paraphrase with explicit style controls — tone shift (formal ↔ casual), register adjustment (technical ↔ layperson), or length change (condense / expand). The factual content stays; the voice changes. Useful when the goal is audience adaptation, not summarization.

Tone shift — formal ↔ casual
A formal RFP response can be rewritten in a conversational tone for a follow-up email. A casual blog post can be tightened to a formal one-pager. The content stays; the register shifts.
Audience adaptation — technical ↔ layperson
Engineering docs rewritten for sales materials. Sales materials rewritten for technical audiences. The product info stays; the abstraction level changes.
Length adjustment — condense or expand
A 10-page report condensed to a 2-page exec brief, or a 1-paragraph idea expanded to a 3-page concept doc. Pairs with AI Condense / AI Expand for the dedicated length controls.
Multi-author style harmonization
When several authors contribute to one document, voice inconsistency is jarring. Rewrite the whole doc to one consistent voice without rewriting from scratch.
Translation prep
Before translating to other languages, rewrite the source to plain, idiom-free English. Both machine and human translators produce significantly higher-quality output from plain source than from idiomatic / culturally-loaded source.

How AI Rewrite works

Three steps. Sign in to run, zero retention — files never persisted on our servers.

  1. STEP 1
Drop the PDF + pick style
PDF up to 100 MB. Style options: tone (formal / neutral / casual), register (technical / general / simple), length (preserve / condense / expand). Defaults to neutral preserve-length.
  2. STEP 2
    We rewrite section-by-section
Server-side text extraction, then a constrained rewrite pass that preserves every numeric value, name, and factual claim while applying the requested style change. Routing layer selects the model best suited to the style transform.
  3. STEP 3
    Get markdown output
Rewritten doc in markdown. Page citations link each rewritten section back to the source, so you can verify the rewrite preserved meaning before publishing.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Citations on every claim
Every AI summary, answer, and translation links back to the page it came from. You can verify the source before relying on the output. Hallucination is bounded, not blind.
  • Pay only for what you use
No subscription. Purchased credits never expire. Cancel anytime. Cost shown before you run — exact credit amount appears after upload.
  • Multi-provider routing, no vendor lock-in
We balance multiple AI providers per call to optimise cost and quality. If one has an outage, the next call automatically tries another. You're not bound to a single vendor's pricing or downtime.
  • Zero retention by design
Your PDF lives in memory only as long as the AI call needs it, then it's discarded — nothing is persisted to our servers. We don't fine-tune models on your data. Verifiable in your dashboard's audit log.
  • Honest about model limits
When a doc exceeds the model's context window we surface that the output was truncated (we render result.wasTruncated in every AI tool's UI). When a number can't be verified from the source we flag it. No silent failures.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from AI Paraphrase?
Paraphrase changes word choice and sentence structure but holds the style/register constant. Rewrite is paraphrase plus an explicit style change. If you want to keep the same voice but rephrase, use Paraphrase. If you want a different voice, use Rewrite.
Are numbers and dates preserved exactly?
Yes — explicitly. The model is constrained to preserve every numeric value, percentage, date, currency amount, name, and proper noun verbatim. Style change should never change facts.
Can I rewrite into a specific tone like ‘Apple-style’ or ‘Hemingway’?
Roughly. Generic styles (formal / casual / technical / simple) are well-supported. Brand-specific styles (Apple voice, Stripe voice, etc.) work but are approximate — the model imitates surface-level signals (sentence length, vocabulary). For brand-aligned content, treat the output as a draft for the brand-voice editor.
What if I want length change without other style changes?
Use AI Condense (shorter) or AI Expand (longer) instead — those are length-only with style preserved. Rewrite is the right tool when you want both length AND style change.
What’s the credit cost?
3 credits per doc. Cost is fixed regardless of doc size.
What if the rewrite changes meaning?
It can happen, especially with aggressive style changes (highly technical → layperson, formal legal → casual). Read the output before publishing — the page citations make spot-checking easy. For high-stakes content, treat as a draft for human review.

Want a tone audit first?

AI Tone Analyze surfaces the current tone and register of a document — useful for deciding what rewrite direction to choose, or for verifying the rewrite achieved the intended shift.
