Why people use AI TL;DR

Sometimes you don’t need a structured summary — you need the 30-second version you’d say to someone over coffee. TL;DR returns a 2–3 sentence distillation of the document’s headline argument, decision, or finding. No bullets, no sections — just the takeaway.

Slack / chat forwarding
Drop a TL;DR into a Slack channel as the lead-in when sharing a long doc. Saves teammates the “TL;DR pls” reply and gets the doc actually read.
Pre-meeting briefing
30 seconds of pre-read for a 60-minute meeting. Read the TL;DR while walking to the room — you arrive informed enough to ask questions.
Reading-list triage
20 articles in the to-read pile. TL;DR each one to decide which deserve a full read, a skim, or a delete. Faster than 20 abstracts.
Email subject lines
Use the TL;DR as the elevator pitch when forwarding a doc by email. Recipients see the takeaway in the subject and decide whether to open.
Note-taking shorthand
Personal knowledge management — store the TL;DR alongside a doc reference in your notes app. When you re-encounter the doc 6 months later, the TL;DR jogs your memory faster than re-skimming.

How AI TL;DR works

Three steps. Sign in to run, zero retention — files never persisted on our servers.

  1. STEP 1
    Drop your PDF
Up to 100 MB. Same backend as AI Summarize but tuned for extreme brevity.
  2. STEP 2
    We extract the headline finding
Server-side text extraction → map-reduce pass tuned for a 2–3 sentence output. The prompt explicitly forbids preamble (“This document discusses...”) so what you get is the substance, not framing.
  3. STEP 3
    Get a 2–3 sentence takeaway
Plain text output. Copy + paste anywhere. Stored in /app/files alongside the source PDF for re-access.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Citations on every claim
Every AI summary, answer, and translation links back to the page it came from. You can verify the source before relying on the output. Hallucination is bounded, not blind.
  • Pay only for what you use
No subscription. Purchased credits never expire. Cancel anytime. Cost shown before you run — exact credit amount appears after upload.
  • Multi-provider routing, no vendor lock-in
We balance multiple AI providers per call to optimise cost and quality. If one has an outage, the next call automatically tries another. You're not bound to a single vendor's pricing or downtime.
  • Zero retention by design
Your PDF lives in memory only as long as the AI call needs it, then it's discarded — nothing is persisted to our servers. We don't fine-tune models on your data. Verifiable in your dashboard's audit log.
  • Honest about model limits
When a doc exceeds the model's context window we surface that the output was truncated (we render result.wasTruncated in every AI tool's UI). When a number can't be verified from the source we flag it. No silent failures.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the output so short — am I losing information?
Yes, deliberately. TL;DR is the 30-second version. If 2–3 sentences isn’t enough for your purpose, use AI Summarize (1/10th-length structured digest) or AI Key Points (bullet list). Pick the level of compression that matches your reading goal.
How accurate is a 2-sentence summary?
Accurate enough for triage, not accurate enough for decision-making. The compression is brutal — nuance disappears. Treat TL;DR as “should I read this?” not as “what does this say?”
Does it work on multi-topic documents?
Less well. Documents with several distinct sections or competing arguments compress poorly into 2 sentences. For those, AI Key Points or AI Summarize keeps the structure intact.
What if my doc has charts or images?
TL;DR is text-only. Charts / figures are noted but not interpreted (that’s AI Chart-to-Table’s scope). For image-heavy docs, AI OCR first to surface the text content, then TL;DR.
What's the credit cost?
3 credits per TL;DR. Same as AI Summarize because the backend work is the same — the difference is in output formatting.
Can I send a PDF with confidential information?
Same posture as AI Summarize — sent to the inference provider, not stored. For high-confidentiality content, redact first via the in-browser Redact PDF tool, then TL;DR the redacted version.

Need more than 2 sentences?

AI Summarize returns a 1/10th-length structured digest with section headings and page citations — when the takeaway needs more than the elevator pitch.
