Why people translate PDFs

PDFs travel internationally — research papers, legal documents, customer-support manuals, immigration paperwork. AI Translate produces page-faithful translation across 50+ languages, preserving paragraph structure so the output reads like the original would in the target language.

Multilingual contract sharing
An English-language MSA needs to go to a partner who reads Spanish. Translate produces a working draft for review — translation memory note: this is a draft, not legally certified, so use a sworn translator for binding documents.
Academic paper translation
Read a research paper published in Mandarin or German. The output preserves equations as text (LaTeX-friendly markup), keeps citations in original form, and translates only the prose.
Legal documents for non-English speakers
Court notices, lease agreements, government forms — translate the body so the client can read along during the lawyer’s explanation. NOT a substitute for a certified translation when one is legally required.
Customer-support knowledge in local languages
An English knowledge base PDF gets translated for a Japanese support team. The output preserves headings, lists, and code blocks — drop into the team’s wiki as a starting localization.
Travel docs & immigration paperwork
I-94 instructions, visa application notes, travel-insurance terms — get the gist in your reading language before filling them out. Pair with AI Form Fill once the destination form is understood.

How AI Translate works

Three steps. Sign in to run, zero retention — files never persisted on our servers.

  1. STEP 1
Drop your PDF + pick target language
Up to 100 MB. 50+ target languages including Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, Portuguese. Source language auto-detected.
  2. STEP 2
We chunk + translate + reassemble
Server-side text extraction → map-reduce translation pass (each chunk translated independently with shared glossary) → markdown output that preserves headings, lists, code blocks, and tables.
  3. STEP 3
    Get markdown back
Output is markdown. Copy into your CMS / wiki / doc tool. Pair with Markdown to PDF if you need a polished PDF in the target language.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Citations on every claim
Every AI summary, answer, and translation links back to the page it came from. You can verify the source before relying on the output. Hallucination is bounded, not blind.
  • Pay only for what you use
No subscription. Purchased credits never expire. Cancel anytime. Cost shown before you run — exact credit amount appears after upload.
  • Multi-provider routing, no vendor lock-in
We balance multiple AI providers per call to optimise cost and quality. If one has an outage, the next call automatically tries another. You're not bound to a single vendor's pricing or downtime.
  • Zero retention by design
Your PDF lives in memory only as long as the AI call needs it, then it's discarded — nothing is persisted to our servers. We don't fine-tune models on your data. Verifiable in your dashboard's audit log.
  • Honest about model limits
When a doc exceeds the model's context window we surface that the output was truncated (we render result.wasTruncated in every AI tool's UI). When a number can't be verified from the source we flag it. No silent failures.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the translation — can I rely on it for legal / medical use?
Accurate enough for understanding, NOT enough for legal or medical certification. For binding contracts, certified translations of medical records, or court filings, use a sworn human translator. AI Translate is for the “draft for review” tier — fast, cheap, good enough for understanding the document.
Does it handle PDFs with both text and scanned pages?
Text-first. If your PDF is image-only (scanned), run AI OCR first to get a text-bearing version, then Translate. Mixed-content PDFs (some text, some scanned) translate the text portions and skip the image portions with a placeholder.
Are formulas / equations preserved?
Yes — equations are detected and emitted as LaTeX-style math markup that survives the translation. Citations and bibliography references are kept in original form (no point translating “et al.”).
What's the credit cost?
5 credits per translation regardless of source/target language pair. Cost scales with document length only via the chunking — typical 10-page documents run as a single chunk.
How long does it take?
20 seconds to a few minutes depending on document length. We chunk to avoid context-window limits, but even large docs typically finish in under 3 minutes.
Can I translate confidential documents?
Same posture as AI Summarize — sent to the inference provider, not stored. For sensitive content (NDAs, medical records, immigration paperwork), redact PII first via Redact PDF (in-browser) so the redacted content is what reaches the inference provider.

Need a summary in the target language?

Run AI Translate first, then AI Summarize on the translated output. Or run Summarize first and Translate the summary — gets the same result with fewer tokens used.
