Why people use AI Flashcards

Flashcards are the gold standard for spaced-repetition study because they enforce active recall — you have to RETRIEVE the answer, not just RECOGNIZE it. AI Flashcards generates Q&A pairs from any PDF: textbook chapters, lecture notes, training materials, language vocab.

Exam prep from textbook PDFs
Drop a textbook chapter, get 10–30 flashcards covering the key concepts. CSV export imports directly into Anki or Quizlet for spaced-repetition drilling.
Compliance training
An employee handbook or policy doc becomes a self-test deck. Useful for “did the team actually read the new code-of-conduct” checks where a quiz format works better than a sign-off form.
Onboarding knowledge transfer
Internal wiki page or ramp-up doc → flashcard deck for the new hire. Drilled over the first two weeks, the deck builds the recall pattern naturally.
Language vocab from articles
Reading a news article in your target language? Flashcards pulls vocabulary you don’t know with definitions. Better than a vocabulary list because the words come WITH context from real reading.
Medical / law board prep
USMLE / bar-exam practice from study guides. The Q&A format matches how the actual exam questions are framed. Pair with AI Quiz for MCQ practice in addition to free-recall flashcards.

How AI Flashcards works

Three steps. Sign in to run, zero retention — files never persisted on our servers.

  1. STEP 1
    Drop your PDF
Up to 100 MB. Works on any text-bearing content — textbooks, lecture notes, articles, training materials.
  2. STEP 2
We extract concepts + generate Q&A
Server-side extraction → key-concept identification → Q&A generation tuned for active recall (not yes/no questions, not vague prompts). Page citations embedded so you can verify each card against the source.
  3. STEP 3
    Download as Anki-ready CSV
10–30 cards per submission, CSV format with `front, back` columns. Import directly into Anki, Quizlet, RemNote, or any spaced-repetition tool. Page references included as a third column for verification.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Citations on every claim
Every AI summary, answer, and translation links back to the page it came from. You can verify the source before relying on the output. Hallucination is bounded, not blind.
  • Pay only for what you use
No subscription. Purchased credits never expire. Cancel anytime. Cost shown before you run — exact credit amount appears after upload.
  • Multi-provider routing, no vendor lock-in
We balance multiple AI providers per call to optimise cost and quality. If one has an outage, the next call automatically tries another. You're not bound to a single vendor's pricing or downtime.
  • Zero retention by design
Your PDF lives in memory only as long as the AI call needs it, then it's discarded — nothing is persisted to our servers. We don't fine-tune models on your data. Verifiable in your dashboard's audit log.
  • Honest about model limits
When a doc exceeds the model's context window we surface that the output was truncated (we render result.wasTruncated in every AI tool's UI). When a number can't be verified from the source we flag it. No silent failures.

Frequently asked questions

How many cards per PDF?
10–30 typically, scaled by content density. A 30-page paper produces ~15 cards. A 200-page textbook chapter produces ~30 (the cap). For more than 30, run on chapter subsections separately.
What's the question style?
Free-recall format — questions that require retrieval, not multiple choice. “Define X.” “What is the function of Y?” “Why did the author argue Z?” If you want MCQ format, use AI Quiz instead.
How do I import into Anki?
File → Import in Anki, point at the CSV, set the field separator to comma. The first column maps to Front, the second to Back. The page-reference column is optional — leave it as a tag or extra field.
Will it work on non-English PDFs?
Yes — flashcards generate in the language of the source. For cross-language drills (e.g. Spanish source, English questions), translate the source first, then generate flashcards.
What's the credit cost?
5 credits per deck.
How is this different from AI Quiz?
Flashcards = free-recall Q&A pairs (you have to RETRIEVE the answer, then check). Quiz = multiple-choice questions with 4 options each + correct-answer key. Use Flashcards for studying-to-mastery; use Quiz for self-testing or assessment.

Need MCQ format instead?

AI Quiz generates 6–12 multiple-choice questions with 4 plausible distractors each — better for self-test or formal assessment compared to free-recall flashcards.
