Why people use Expand PDF

Expand PDF turns concise material (bullets, outlines, terse drafts) into fuller prose with source-grounded context. Each idea gets the elaboration it needs without inventing claims that aren’t in the source. Useful when the goal is converting a skeleton into a full draft.

Outline → full draft
Article / chapter / report outlines (bullets with sub-bullets) become full prose drafts. Each outline point gets context, examples, and transitions — faster than the “sit down and write” phase that’s the slowest part of long-form writing.
Bullet-list expansion for stakeholder-facing docs
Internal bullet-list briefs (engineering design docs, status updates) get expanded into stakeholder-friendly prose. Stakeholders find prose more digestible than dense bullet lists.
Slide deck → speaker-notes script
Slides with bullet content + speaker notes get the speaker-notes filled out into spoken prose. Useful for talk prep where you have the structure but haven’t written what you’ll actually say.
Skeleton spec → full PRD
Engineering skeleton (problem / proposed solution bullet list) expanded into a full PRD with rationale, alternatives considered, and risk discussion. The expansion grounds in source material rather than fabricating.
Brief → full proposal
Sales / RFP responses where you have a brief and need to expand into a 10-page formal proposal. Expand provides the structural draft to refine.

How Expand PDF works

Three steps. Sign in to run, zero retention — files never persisted on our servers.

  1. STEP 1
    Drop the doc
PDF up to 100 MB. Works on bullet-heavy outlines, terse drafts, skeleton documents. Prose-heavy content already at full length expands less.
  2. STEP 2
    We elaborate per item
Server-side extraction, then a generation pass that elaborates each bullet / point into fuller prose. Constrained to source-grounded content — no fabricated claims, just contextualization of what’s already there. Routing layer picks the model best at constrained generation.
  3. STEP 3
    Get the expanded draft
Markdown output, typically 1.5–2.5x input length. Page citations link each expanded section back to the source so you can verify the expansion stayed grounded.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Citations on every claim
Every AI summary, answer, and translation links back to the page it came from. You can verify the source before relying on the output. Hallucination is bounded, not blind.
  • Pay only for what you use
No subscription. Purchased credits never expire. Cancel anytime. Cost shown before you run — exact credit amount appears after upload.
  • Multi-provider routing, no vendor lock-in
We balance multiple AI providers per call to optimise cost and quality. If one has an outage, the next call automatically tries another. You're not bound to a single vendor's pricing or downtime.
  • Zero retention by design
Your PDF lives in memory only as long as the AI call needs it, then it's discarded — nothing is persisted to our servers. We don't fine-tune models on your data. Verifiable in your dashboard's audit log.
  • Honest about model limits
When a doc exceeds the model's context window we surface that the output was truncated (we render result.wasTruncated in every AI tool's UI). When a number can't be verified from the source we flag it. No silent failures.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fabricate claims?
Constrained against fabrication — the expansion is supposed to elaborate what’s in the source, not invent new claims. Spot-check the output anyway: page citations make verification fast, and for high-stakes content (legal, regulatory) treat the expansion as a draft for source-grounding review.
How much longer is the output?
Typically 1.5–2.5x input length. Highly compressed input (one-line bullets) can expand 3x; already-expanded prose may grow only 1.2x. For explicit length targeting, expand then condense to your target.
Will it preserve my voice?
The expansion uses register-matching: if your bullets are casual, the prose stays casual; if they’re formal, expansion is formal. Brand-specific voice is partial — provide example expansions as context for closer brand match (feature on roadmap).
Does it add examples?
Adds illustrative context where the source implies it (e.g. “various stakeholders” → “various stakeholders such as engineering, product, and customer success”). Doesn’t fabricate specific company / product examples that aren’t in the source.
What’s the credit cost?
3 credits per doc. Cost is fixed regardless of doc size.
What if the expansion is too verbose?
Run AI Improve Writing or AI Condense on the output — that’s the explicit length-tightening tool. Expand-then-condense is a valid 2-step workflow when the goal is “more thorough than my outline but tighter than the raw expansion.”

Need the opposite (less length)?

Condense PDF cuts 40–60% while preserving facts. The natural counterpart to Expand for length adjustment in either direction.
