What you'll get: chart data points extracted from any visual chart type (bar / line / pie / scatter / stacked), with axis labels and units preserved. For values it can't read precisely, returns a range with a confidence note. For another use, try AI · Table Extract.

Why people use Chart → Data Table

Charts in PDFs hide their data — you can see the trend but can’t copy the numbers. Chart → Data Table reads charts visually, extracts the data points (with axis labels and units preserved), and returns CSV-ready output. Bar / line / pie / scatter / stacked all supported.

Research paper data recovery
When a paper’s underlying data isn’t shared and the chart is the only artifact, the extractor recovers approximate data points for re-analysis or comparison with your own work.
Annual report numeric extraction
Investor decks and annual reports rely on charts more than tables. Extraction makes the data points re-usable for your own analysis without manual point-clicking.
Competitor benchmarking
Public competitor metrics (revenue charts, growth charts, market-share charts) extracted into tables for side-by-side comparison with your own internal numbers.
Educational textbook data
Textbooks present data in charts for explanation. The extractor lets students recreate the chart in their own software for learning by doing.
Presentation slide data recovery
Slide decks where the chart was built but the underlying spreadsheet was lost. The extractor reverse-engineers approximate data so you can rebuild the chart from scratch.

How Chart → Data Table works

Three steps. Sign in to run, zero retention — files never persisted on our servers.

  1. STEP 1
    Drop the PDF with charts
PDF up to 50 MB. Works on charts in research papers, annual reports, presentations, articles. Bar / line / pie / scatter / stacked-bar / stacked-area all supported.
  2. STEP 2
    We read the chart visually
AI Vision model identifies axes (labels, scales, units), reads data points (per bar / per line vertex / per pie slice), classifies confidence per point. Multi-chart PDFs processed page-by-page with one table per chart.
  3. STEP 3
    Get CSV-ready tables
Markdown output: one table per chart, with columns for each axis variable. CSV export available for direct spreadsheet import. Page citation indicates source chart.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Citations on every claim
Every AI summary, answer, and translation links back to the page it came from. You can verify the source before relying on the output. Hallucination is bounded, not blind.
  • Pay only for what you use
No subscription. Purchased credits never expire. Cancel anytime. Cost shown before you run — exact credit amount appears after upload.
  • Multi-provider routing, no vendor lock-in
We balance multiple AI providers per call to optimise cost and quality. If one has an outage, the next call automatically tries another. You're not bound to a single vendor's pricing or downtime.
  • Zero retention by design
Your PDF lives in memory only as long as the AI call needs it, then it's discarded — nothing is persisted to our servers. We don't fine-tune models on your data. Verifiable in your dashboard's audit log.
  • Honest about model limits
When a doc exceeds the model's context window we surface that the output was truncated (we render result.wasTruncated in every AI tool's UI). When a number can't be verified from the source we flag it. No silent failures.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the extracted numbers?
Approximate. Bar charts with clear gridlines → ~5% accuracy. Line charts → ~10% on inflection points. Pie charts → ~5% on percentages. Heavily styled / 3D / artistic charts → lower accuracy. Treat extracted numbers as starting estimates, not authoritative source data.
What if the chart has no axis labels?
Output indicates “axis labels missing — numbers are relative not absolute.” Useful for trend analysis even without absolute values; useless for absolute comparison.
Can it handle multi-series charts?
Yes — each series becomes a column in the table. Stacked bars / stacked areas decomposed into per-series columns. Legend matching ensures the right series gets the right name.
What about exotic chart types (radar, treemap, Sankey)?
Less reliable. Standard chart types (bar / line / pie / scatter / column) are the strong cases. Exotic types may extract approximately but verify before using. For specialized chart types where accuracy matters, manual data entry is more reliable.
What’s the credit cost?
3 credits per doc. Cost is fixed regardless of chart count.
Privacy?
PDF sent to inference provider for chart-vision extraction, not stored. For confidential charts (internal financials, unreleased competitor intel), redact surrounding text via Redact PDF first — the chart extraction works on the redacted version.

Need to extract regular tables too?

AI Table Extract pulls structured tables from PDFs as CSV / Excel — the natural counterpart to chart extraction for the “extract everything quantitative” workflow.
