Why people use Research Paper Summarizer

Research papers are dense, structured artifacts — abstract / methods / results / discussion / limitations / refs. Generic summarization loses the structure. Research Paper Summarizer preserves it and adds: BibTeX citation, magnitude-preserving results section, related-reading suggestions, and how-to-cite examples in major styles. Useful for literature review and reading-list triage.

Literature review for thesis / dissertation
Drop each paper in your reading list, get a structured summary preserving methodology + results + limitations. Faster than the “read abstract, decide whether to read body” loop, and the limitations section surfaces caveats abstracts hide.
Pre-meeting paper triage
Lab meetings and journal clubs often have 5+ assigned papers. Pre-read summaries surface the methodology and results so you arrive prepared without reading every paper cover-to-cover.
Grant proposal background
Grant applications require “background literature” sections that synthesize ~20 papers. The summarizer’s structured output (with BibTeX) accelerates the synthesis. Pair with AI Citations for the formatted reference list.
Cross-disciplinary research reading
Reading outside your field is hard — methodologies and conventions differ. The summarizer preserves the doc’s technical claims while making the structure scannable, helping you decide whether the paper’s actually relevant to your work.
Comparing related papers
Run two papers on related topics through the summarizer, compare the structured outputs side-by-side. Methodologies, sample sizes, effect magnitudes are easier to compare in structured form than in prose.

How Research Paper Summarizer works

Three steps. Sign in to run, zero retention — files never persisted on our servers.

  1. STEP 1
    Drop the paper PDF
PDF up to 100 MB. Works on standard journal-paper formats (one-column / two-column), conference papers, preprints (arXiv, bioRxiv, SSRN). Theses / books work but with less optimal structuring.
  2. STEP 2
    We structure + cite
Server-side extraction (preserving section structure), then a structured summary pass. Numeric values (effect sizes, p-values, sample sizes) preserved verbatim. BibTeX citation generated from metadata. How-to-cite examples in APA / MLA / Chicago / IEEE.
  3. STEP 3
    Get a research-ready summary
Markdown output with: BibTeX entry / Abstract / Methods / Results (magnitudes preserved) / Limitations / How-to-cite examples / Related-reading suggestions (from the paper’s own references). Page citations link each section back to the source.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Citations on every claim
Every AI summary, answer, and translation links back to the page it came from. You can verify the source before relying on the output. Hallucination is bounded, not blind.
  • Pay only for what you use
No subscription. Purchased credits never expire. Cancel anytime. Cost shown before you run — exact credit amount appears after upload.
  • Multi-provider routing, no vendor lock-in
We balance multiple AI providers per call to optimise cost and quality. If one has an outage, the next call automatically tries another. You're not bound to a single vendor's pricing or downtime.
  • Zero retention by design
Your PDF lives in memory only as long as the AI call needs it, then it's discarded — nothing is persisted to our servers. We don't fine-tune models on your data. Verifiable in your dashboard's audit log.
  • Honest about model limits
When a doc exceeds the model's context window we surface that the output was truncated (we render result.wasTruncated in every AI tool's UI). When a number can't be verified from the source we flag it. No silent failures.

Frequently asked questions

Are numbers preserved exactly?
Yes — explicitly. Effect sizes, p-values, confidence intervals, sample sizes, odds ratios, hazard ratios all preserved verbatim. Misreporting numbers is the #1 risk in summarization of quantitative content; we benchmark and route to the model that does this best.
Will it generate accurate BibTeX?
Strong on standard journal articles (DOI present, structured metadata in PDF properties). Weaker on preprints with non-standard metadata or poorly-tagged PDFs. Verify the BibTeX before pasting into your bibliography — fields like author order, journal name, volume / issue / pages are common error spots.
What about figures and tables?
Summary references key figures and tables by their numbering (“Table 2 reports…”, “Figure 3 shows…”) but doesn’t reproduce them. For papers where the figures carry the main result (e.g. epidemiology with risk-stratified curves), supplement with manual figure review.
Will it suggest related reading?
Yes — pulls 3–5 references from the paper’s own bibliography that appear most central (cited multiple times, in methods and discussion). NOT a literature search beyond the paper itself; for that, use a tool like Connected Papers or Semantic Scholar.
What’s the credit cost?
3 credits per paper. Cost is fixed regardless of paper length.
Will it catch the limitations section accurately?
Yes — explicitly preserved. Most papers downplay limitations in the abstract; the summarizer surfaces them prominently. For papers that don’t have a clear limitations section, the summarizer infers methodological caveats and flags them as “inferred”.

Building a citation list?

AI Citations extracts citations and BibTeX from any PDF that references other works — useful for compiling a literature-review reference list across multiple source papers.
