Why people use AI Cover Letter

Cover letters are formulaic enough that LLMs do them well, and personal enough that they need real input — not just “generate a cover letter for a software engineer.” AI Cover Letter takes your resume + the job description and writes a tailored 1-page draft you can edit, not a copy-paste template.

Job application
You’re applying to 5 roles. Write 5 tailored cover letters in the time it used to take to write 1. Each one cites specific job-description requirements and matches them to specific resume bullet points.
Internship apps
Students with thin resumes benefit most — the tool surfaces transferable skills from coursework / projects / volunteer work that map to the JD. Better than the generic “I am a hardworking student” template.
Career change
Pivot from software engineering to product management — the tool reframes your engineering experience as PM-relevant skills (cross-team coordination, customer empathy, technical judgment). Reduces the cover-letter rewriting tax of mid-career transitions.
Grad school applications
Statement-of-purpose drafts using your resume + the program’s mission/curriculum as inputs. Treats it like a cover letter — connects what you’ve done to what the program offers.
Internal transfer
Applying to a different team within your company. The tool emphasizes the relevant subset of your current role and frames the move in terms of the new role’s needs.

How AI Cover Letter works

Three steps. Sign in to run, zero retention — files never persisted on our servers.

  1. STEP 1
Drop your resume + the job description
Both as PDFs (or paste the JD as text). Resume up to 100 MB; JD typically 1–3 pages.
  2. STEP 2
We map JD requirements to resume bullets
The prompt extracts the JD’s explicit requirements and preferred qualifications, then matches each one to specific evidence in your resume. Gaps (where the JD asks for something not on your resume) are flagged so you can address them in the letter.
  3. STEP 3
    Get a 1-page tailored draft
Markdown output — typically 250–400 words. Personal opening, 2 specific evidence paragraphs tied to JD requirements, brief closing. Edit before sending — this is a starting draft, not a final.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Citations on every claim
Every AI summary, answer, and translation links back to the page it came from. You can verify the source before relying on the output. Hallucination is bounded, not blind.
  • Pay only for what you use
No subscription. Purchased credits never expire. Cancel anytime. Cost shown before you run — exact credit amount appears after upload.
  • Multi-provider routing, no vendor lock-in
We balance multiple AI providers per call to optimise cost and quality. If one has an outage, the next call automatically tries another. You're not bound to a single vendor's pricing or downtime.
  • Zero retention by design
Your PDF lives in memory only as long as the AI call needs it, then it's discarded — nothing is persisted to our servers. We don't fine-tune models on your data. Verifiable in your dashboard's audit log.
  • Honest about model limits
When a doc exceeds the model's context window we surface that the output was truncated (we render result.wasTruncated in every AI tool's UI). When a number can't be verified from the source we flag it. No silent failures.

Frequently asked questions

Is the output ready to send as-is?
No — treat it as a strong first draft, not a final. Edit for: (a) personal voice (the AI sounds professional but generic), (b) specifics the AI couldn’t infer (why THIS company specifically), (c) any factual claims about your background that should be more precise. Skipping the edit pass produces noticeably-AI letters that hiring managers can spot.
What if the JD asks for something I don't have?
The tool flags this rather than fabricating qualifications. Output includes a “gaps” section: e.g. “The JD requests 5+ years of Python experience; your resume shows 3 years.” You decide how to address — acknowledge directly, emphasize transferable skills, or omit. The tool won’t make up qualifications you don’t have.
Will it work for non-tech roles?
Yes — the prompt is industry-agnostic. Tested on tech, healthcare, education, marketing, finance, government. The pattern is the same: JD requirements + resume evidence → tailored letter.
Can I generate multiple variants?
Run it again — output is non-deterministic, so you’ll get a slightly different draft. Useful if you want to A/B different opening hooks or different evidence emphasis.
What's the credit cost?
5 credits per letter.
What about confidentiality?
Resume + JD sent to inference provider, not stored. For highly confidential job searches (e.g. you’re currently employed and don’t want a leak), redact the resume PDF first via Redact PDF (in-browser) — strip current employer name + dates if needed.
