Why people inspect PDF forms

Fillable PDFs collect data. Knowing which fields exist, what type, and what's filled in is a real workflow concern for HR, legal, finance, and ops.

Form completion verification
Before submitting a 30-field form, audit which fields are filled and which required fields are empty. Faster than tabbing through the PDF.
Data extraction for pipelines
Bulk-extract field values from filled-in PDFs to feed into spreadsheets, ATS systems, or databases. CSV export goes straight into your pipeline.
Audit and compliance
Confirming that the form fields collected match the data spec. Useful for KYC forms, tax returns, government submissions where the field set is regulated.
Form template review
Designers and product owners reviewing a fillable PDF template. The inspector shows every field's name, type, and flags so review happens against actual data not guesses.
Schema documentation
Documenting an existing PDF form's schema for downstream tooling — what field names exist, what types, what flags. JSON export gives a clean machine-readable schema.

How PDF Form Inspector works

Three steps, no signup, no uploads.

  1. STEP 1
    Drop your fillable PDF
Up to 100 MB. Our byte parser walks the AcroForm dictionary — no PDFium engine needed.
  2. STEP 2
    Click Inspect form fields
Every field with a name and type is surfaced — text inputs, checkboxes, radios, choice lists, signatures.
  3. STEP 3
    Export
Copy as JSON for pipelines, or download as CSV for spreadsheets. Field names use dotted-path notation (Parent.Child) for nested forms.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Same engine Chrome uses
PDFium is Google's PDF engine — the one that powers Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. We compile it to WebAssembly so it runs in your browser at near-native speed.
  • 100% local processing
Most free PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it, and stream the result back. We don't. Your file lives in your browser tab and never touches our infrastructure. Verifiable in your browser's Network panel.
  • No watermark, no signup, no daily limit
Convert 1 PDF or 1,000. We don't gate on volume because there's nothing to gate on — the engine runs on your machine.
  • Honest about limitations
When something the tool can't do (encrypted PDFs, cross-reference streams), we tell you clearly instead of failing silently. Same for partial results: sampled vs exact, embedded vs not.
  • Open standards, free engines
PDFium is BSD/Apache licensed (free for any use). We don't pay vendor license fees and pass that savings on to you (and to ourselves) as a free, ad-supported tool with no upgrade-to-pro pressure.

Frequently asked questions

Does it fill the form for me?
No, this tool inspects only — it tells you what fields exist and their current values. To fill in fields, use the Fill PDF Forms tool.
What field types does it recognize?
All four AcroForm types: Tx (text inputs), Btn (buttons — checkbox, radio, pushbutton), Ch (choice — list/combo box), Sig (signature). Plus a flags column showing required, read-only, multiline, password.
Why are some fields blank?
Either they haven't been filled in, or the value is in a non-string format we don't yet decode (e.g. complex dictionaries). The required + readonly flags still show correctly even if the value is empty.
Does it handle nested fields?
Yes. Parent fields are walked first; their /Kids subfields show with dotted-path names like 'Address.Street' or 'Address.City'. The hierarchy is preserved.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Byte-stream parser runs in your browser.

Want to fill the form, not just inspect it?

Fill PDF Forms lets you click into each field, type your values, and download the filled PDF.
