Why people add image watermarks
Logos, signatures, and brand marks turn a generic PDF into a branded artifact. Image watermarks are the visual identity layer — they communicate ownership and source at a glance.
Brand identity
Stamp your company logo on every page of a deck or proposal so the source is visible regardless of how it’s shared or printed.
Signature stamps
Add a scanned signature image to forms or letters that don’t need cryptographic signing.
Draft / approval marks
Use a graphical DRAFT or APPROVED stamp instead of plain text — more visually distinctive in mixed-document workflows.
Letterhead overlay
Add letterhead imagery to plain documents without rebuilding them in Word — drop the PDF, stamp the logo, done.
Watermark for sample sharing
Apply a SAMPLE or PREVIEW image watermark to chapter excerpts you share publicly so the full version stays paid.
Educational copyright marks
Course material distributed to students often gets a school logo + copyright notice as an image overlay.
How Image Watermark works
Three steps, no signup, no uploads.
- STEP 1Drop your PDFUp to 100 MB. Files stay in your browser.
- STEP 2Pick a watermark imagePNG or JPG up to 10 MB. Transparent PNGs let the page content show through where the image is transparent.
- STEP 3Pick position + opacity + size3×3 grid for placement (corners, edges, center). Opacity 5–100%. Size 5–100% of page width — height scales proportionally.
- STEP 4Apply & downloadWe embed the image once and drawImage on every page at the chosen position. Resources are reused so output stays compact.
What makes pdfcraft ai different
- Same engine Chrome usesPDFium is Google's PDF engine — the one that powers Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. We compile it to WebAssembly so it runs in your browser at near-native speed.
- 100% local processingMost free PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it, and stream the result back. We don't. Your file lives in your browser tab and never touches our infrastructure. Verifiable in your browser's Network panel.
- No watermark, no signup, no daily limitConvert 1 PDF or 1,000. We don't gate on volume because there's nothing to gate on — the engine runs on your machine.
- Honest about limitationsWhen something the tool can't do (encrypted PDFs, cross-reference streams), we tell you clearly instead of failing silently. Same for partial results: sampled vs exact, embedded vs not.
- Open standards, free enginesPDFium is BSD/Apache licensed (free for any use). We don't pay vendor license fees and pass that savings on to you (and to ourselves) as a free, ad-supported tool with no upgrade-to-pro pressure.
Frequently asked questions
Are transparent PNGs supported?
Yes. Transparency in the source PNG is preserved — page content shows through where the image is transparent. JPEGs don’t support transparency, so they always render as opaque rectangles.
Can I position the watermark by dragging?
Not in v1 — you pick from a 3×3 position grid. Drag-to-position is a v2 enhancement once we have a shared visual-editor base across multiple tools.
Will the watermark print?
Yes. Anything visible in viewers prints by default.
Is the original PDF modified?
No. We produce a new PDF with the watermark drawn on top of the original page content. Your original file is untouched.
What’s the difference between this and Watermark PDF?
Watermark PDF stamps TEXT (DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, etc.). Image Watermark stamps an IMAGE (logo, signature, brand mark). Different inputs, same drawing concept.
Is anything uploaded?
No. pdf-lib runs in your browser; the PDF and the watermark image both stay local.
Want a text watermark instead?
Watermark PDF stamps text like DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL with rotation and opacity controls. Different tool, same idea.
