Why people rotate PDF pages
Rotation is one of the cheapest fixes in document workflows. A scanner picks up a page upside down, a phone snap lands sideways, an export comes through 90° off — rotating fixes all of it without re-scanning or re-exporting.
Sideways scans
Office scanners frequently rotate landscape-fed pages. Fix every affected page in one pass with a custom range.
Phone-camera PDFs
Mobile scan apps save in whatever orientation the phone was held. Rotate to upright for archival.
Mixed-orientation reports
Engineering reports interleave portrait analysis pages with landscape data tables. Rotate the data tables 90° so they read on screen without head-tilting.
Compliance review prep
Auditors expect documents in a uniform orientation. Rotate pages to match before submitting the review package.
Print-prep correction
Pages laid out in landscape but exported as portrait need rotating before press — saves a re-export and a billable hour.
Page-by-page cleanup
When a 200-page document has 4 misaligned pages, type the page numbers (e.g. ‘7, 23, 88, 154’) and fix only those.
How Rotate PDF works
Three steps, no signup, no uploads.
- STEP 1Drop your PDFUp to 100 MB. PDFium renders every page as a small thumbnail in your browser — no upload, files never leave your device.
- STEP 2Click pages to rotateEach thumbnail is clickable. Click once for 90°, again for 180°, again for 270°, again to reset. Bulk buttons rotate all pages at once.
- STEP 3Apply & downloadWe adjust the /Rotate entry per page via pdf-lib and re-save. Lossless — the underlying content stream is untouched. Runs in milliseconds even on huge files.
What makes pdfcraft ai different
- Same engine Chrome usesPDFium is Google's PDF engine — the one that powers Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. We compile it to WebAssembly so it runs in your browser at near-native speed.
- 100% local processingMost free PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it, and stream the result back. We don't. Your file lives in your browser tab and never touches our infrastructure. Verifiable in your browser's Network panel.
- No watermark, no signup, no daily limitConvert 1 PDF or 1,000. We don't gate on volume because there's nothing to gate on — the engine runs on your machine.
- Honest about limitationsWhen something the tool can't do (encrypted PDFs, cross-reference streams), we tell you clearly instead of failing silently. Same for partial results: sampled vs exact, embedded vs not.
- Open standards, free enginesPDFium is BSD/Apache licensed (free for any use). We don't pay vendor license fees and pass that savings on to you (and to ourselves) as a free, ad-supported tool with no upgrade-to-pro pressure.
Frequently asked questions
Is rotation lossless?
Yes. We modify the page’s /Rotate entry — the actual content stream (text, images, vector paths) stays exactly as it was. Quality is identical to the input. This is much better than re-exporting through a print driver, which can re-encode images and fonts.
What about double-rotation? If I rotate 90° twice?
We add to the existing rotation rather than overwriting. So if a page is already rotated 90° and you rotate again by 90°, the result is 180°. This matches user intent — rotate is a relative action, not an absolute reset.
How do I rotate counter-clockwise (left)?
Use 270°. PDF rotation is always clockwise in the spec, so 270° clockwise lands at the same place as 90° counter-clockwise.
Can I rotate by arbitrary angles like 45°?
No — the PDF spec only supports 90° increments via /Rotate. Arbitrary angles require modifying the content stream itself (re-rendering each page through a transform matrix), which loses fidelity. For arbitrary rotation use a tool like Adobe Acrobat or a screenshot-edit-reinsert workflow.
Is anything uploaded?
No. pdf-lib runs in JavaScript in your browser. The PDF never leaves your device. Verifiable in DevTools.
Will printing pick up the rotation?
Yes. /Rotate is a first-class PDF spec entry — print drivers, viewers, and OCR engines all honor it. Acrobat, Apple Preview, Chrome, Firefox, and every printer we’ve tested respect it correctly.
Need to inspect a PDF first?
PDF Inspector tells you which pages are landscape vs portrait, with a mixed-orientation warning. Run it before rotating to know exactly which pages need fixing.
