Crop PDF

Free
Drag a rectangle on page 1 to define a crop area, applied uniformly to every page. Lossless via /CropBox — no content is removed, just hidden.

What you'll get: a PDF with every page cropped to the rectangle you draw on page 1 — visual drag-to-select, lossless via /CropBox (content stays in the file, viewers just show the smaller area). For another use, try Rotate PDF.

Why people crop PDFs

Cropping removes the visual noise around the content that matters — scanner margins, header/footer junk, oversized print bleeds. Setting a /CropBox is non-destructive (the original page bounds survive in the file) but every viewer respects it.

Scanner margins
Office scanners leave thick white borders. Crop to the content area for tighter visual presentation.
Print-prep trim
Designers send PDFs with bleed marks for the printer. Cropping to the trim box gives the rendered preview.
Mobile reading
Phone-screen reading benefits from tighter crops — same content, less zooming.
Multi-up reflows
Before laying two pages side-by-side on a sheet, crop each one to its content area so the reflow looks balanced.
E-reader transfers
Sending PDFs to Kindle / Kobo? Cropping margins makes the text bigger on small screens without re-typesetting.
Header / footer redaction
If the only thing you need to hide is a header or footer, cropping it off is faster than redacting individual fields.

How Crop PDF works

Three steps, no signup, no uploads.

  1. STEP 1
    Drop your PDF
Up to 100 MB. PDFium renders page 1 at 1.5× — sharp enough to see the content area you want to keep.
  2. STEP 2
    Drag the crop area
Click and drag anywhere on the page to draw the crop rectangle. The area outside dims; the area inside is your final output. Click ‘Reset crop’ to start over.
  3. STEP 3
    Apply & download
We set /CropBox on every page to your rectangle (in PDF user-space coordinates). Lossless — the original /MediaBox is preserved, viewers just respect the crop.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Same engine Chrome uses
PDFium is Google's PDF engine — the one that powers Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. We compile it to WebAssembly so it runs in your browser at near-native speed.
  • 100% local processing
Most free PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it, and stream the result back. We don't. Your file lives in your browser tab and never touches our infrastructure. Verifiable in your browser's Network panel.
  • No watermark, no signup, no daily limit
Convert 1 PDF or 1,000. We don't gate on volume because there's nothing to gate on — the engine runs on your machine.
  • Honest about limitations
When something the tool can't do (encrypted PDFs, cross-reference streams), we tell you clearly instead of failing silently. Same for partial results: sampled vs exact, embedded vs not.
  • Open standards, free engines
PDFium is BSD/Apache licensed (free for any use). We don't pay vendor license fees and pass that savings on to you (and to ourselves) as a free, ad-supported tool with no upgrade-to-pro pressure.

Frequently asked questions

Is this destructive?
No. We set /CropBox, not /MediaBox. The original page boundary stays in the file — anyone with the PDF can use a tool like qpdf or Acrobat to recover the full page. If you need true destructive removal, that’s a different operation (and harder to do losslessly).
Does the crop apply to every page?
Yes — same rectangle on all pages. Per-page crop is a v2 extension; for now, if your pages have different content areas, crop each section separately and merge.
What if a page is smaller than my crop?
We clamp the crop to fit within each page’s media box. Smaller pages just get cropped to their full size (effectively no crop) instead of failing the save.
Will printing respect the crop?
Yes. /CropBox is honored by every modern viewer and print driver. Acrobat, Apple Preview, Chrome, Firefox all show the cropped area.
Why does the preview only show page 1?
Cropping is uniform across pages, so showing page 1 is enough — the same rectangle applies everywhere. We don’t render every page to keep the editor fast.
Is anything uploaded?
No. PDFium renders the preview locally; pdf-lib applies the crop locally. The PDF never leaves your browser.
