Why people extract PDF pages

Most documents bundle many things — chapters, appendices, supporting evidence, supplementary tables — into one PDF. Extracting lets you isolate the bits that matter so they can be shared, filed, or studied without distributing the entire bundle.

Sharing a single chapter
Send only chapter 4 to a study group instead of forwarding the whole 300-page textbook. Click the pages, save the new PDF, attach.
Pulling specific receipts
Bank statements bundle months of receipts. Extract just the three transactions for an expense report rather than the whole month.
Compliance evidence
Audit packages need specific exhibit pages without the surrounding context. Extract pages 7, 12, 23 into a single evidence PDF.
Citing a passage
Legal briefs and academic papers often cite specific pages. Extract those pages alone for a court exhibit or reference attachment.
Selective sharing
Share pages 4–7 with one reviewer and pages 8–11 with another, without exposing the rest of the document. One PDF in, two extracts out.
Building a custom table-of-contents
Extract introduction + summary + conclusion pages from a long doc to make a 5-page executive briefing. Page order in the output mirrors selection order.

How Extract Pages works

Three steps, no signup, no uploads.

  1. STEP 1
    Drop your PDF
Up to 100 MB. PDFium renders every page as a thumbnail in your browser — no upload, files never leave your device.
  2. STEP 2
    Click pages to keep
Each thumbnail toggles selected/unselected on click. Selected pages get an accent border and a ‘Keep’ badge. Bulk ‘Select all’ / ‘Invert’ / ‘Clear’ cover the common cases.
  3. STEP 3
    Save the new PDF
We copy your selected pages into a brand-new PDF via pdf-lib and trigger the download. Original is untouched.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Same engine Chrome uses
PDFium is Google's PDF engine — the one that powers Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. We compile it to WebAssembly so it runs in your browser at near-native speed.
  • 100% local processing
Most free PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it, and stream the result back. We don't. Your file lives in your browser tab and never touches our infrastructure. Verifiable in your browser's Network panel.
  • No watermark, no signup, no daily limit
Convert 1 PDF or 1,000. We don't gate on volume because there's nothing to gate on — the engine runs on your machine.
  • Honest about limitations
When something the tool can't do (encrypted PDFs, cross-reference streams), we tell you clearly instead of failing silently. Same for partial results: sampled vs exact, embedded vs not.
  • Open standards, free engines
PDFium is BSD/Apache licensed (free for any use). We don't pay vendor license fees and pass that savings on to you (and to ourselves) as a free, ad-supported tool with no upgrade-to-pro pressure.

Frequently asked questions

Is anything uploaded?
No. PDFium and pdf-lib both run as JavaScript / WebAssembly in your browser. The PDF never touches our servers. Verifiable in DevTools → Network.
What’s the difference between Extract Pages and Split PDF?
Split PDF turns one PDF into multiple PDFs at split points (sections of the original). Extract Pages produces ONE new PDF with only the pages you picked — useful when you want a single curated subset, not several pieces. Extract is also non-contiguous: you can pick pages 1, 4, 7 and they all end up in one output.
Are extracted pages in the original order?
Yes. The output preserves source page order regardless of which order you clicked them. So clicking page 7 first then page 2 still produces an output where page 2 appears before page 7.
Will bookmarks, links, and form fields work in the extracted PDF?
Page-level content is preserved exactly. Cross-page bookmarks/links that point INTO your selection still work; ones pointing OUTSIDE the selection become dangling refs (the page no longer exists in the output). pdf-lib v1.17 doesn’t remap these — for production-grade bookmark surgery use server-side qpdf.
Is there a hard limit on input size or page count?
100 MB input. PDFs with hundreds of pages will take a few seconds to render thumbnails — a progress card shows the count. The actual extract is fast (milliseconds even on 1000-page docs).
Will the output file be smaller than the input?
Roughly proportional to the page count. If you extract 5 pages from a 100-page 10 MB PDF, expect an output around 0.5–1 MB. Embedded fonts and images for those specific pages are copied in full (pdf-lib doesn’t subset across documents). For aggressive shrinking, run a server-side compressor afterwards.

Want to remove pages instead?

Delete Pages does the inverse: click pages to mark for removal, save the trimmed PDF. Same thumbnail grid, mirrored semantics.
