Why people delete pages from PDFs

PDFs accumulate noise — blank pages from print drivers, draft cover sheets, scratch pages from scanners, pages with sensitive info that need to come out before sharing. Removing pages is the most common cleanup operation in document workflows.

Blank scanner pages
Office scanners produce blank pages when paper double-feeds or the last page fails to register. Mark them and remove with two clicks.
Cover-sheet trimming
Draft cover sheets and routing slips that came along with a document — strip them before forwarding, archiving, or printing the clean version.
Privacy redaction
Remove pages containing personal info, internal notes, or confidential exhibits before sharing externally. Cleaner than redacting individual fields when the whole page is out of scope.
Reading-pack cleanup
Scanned textbooks often include exam-prep pages, advertisements, or pages from a different chapter. Remove the noise to get a clean study pack.
Statement clean-up
Bank or credit-card statements include marketing inserts and disclaimers. Remove those pages to keep only the transaction history for record-keeping.
Print-prep
Some pages aren’t needed for the printed version (digital-only links, navigation hints, ‘page intentionally blank’). Strip them before sending to press.

How Delete Pages works

Three steps, no signup, no uploads.

  1. STEP 1
    Drop your PDF
Up to 100 MB. PDFium renders every page as a thumbnail in your browser — no upload, no server.
  2. STEP 2
    Click pages to remove
Each thumbnail you click gets a red border, dims to 50% opacity, and shows a ‘Remove’ badge — visual feedback that the page is going away. The bulk ‘Invert’ button is handy when you want to keep most pages but drop a few.
  3. STEP 3
    Save the trimmed PDF
We copy the un-marked pages into a new PDF via pdf-lib and trigger the download. We refuse to delete every page (the result would be empty); maximum is total - 1.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Same engine Chrome uses
PDFium is Google's PDF engine — the one that powers Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. We compile it to WebAssembly so it runs in your browser at near-native speed.
  • 100% local processing
Most free PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it, and stream the result back. We don't. Your file lives in your browser tab and never touches our infrastructure. Verifiable in your browser's Network panel.
  • No watermark, no signup, no daily limit
Convert 1 PDF or 1,000. We don't gate on volume because there's nothing to gate on — the engine runs on your machine.
  • Honest about limitations
When something the tool can't do (encrypted PDFs, cross-reference streams), we tell you clearly instead of failing silently. Same for partial results: sampled vs exact, embedded vs not.
  • Open standards, free engines
PDFium is BSD/Apache licensed (free for any use). We don't pay vendor license fees and pass that savings on to you (and to ourselves) as a free, ad-supported tool with no upgrade-to-pro pressure.

Frequently asked questions

Is anything uploaded?
No. PDFium and pdf-lib both run locally in your browser. The PDF never touches our servers — important when you’re removing sensitive pages and don’t want a copy on someone else’s infrastructure.
Why does it dim the thumbnails I select instead of highlighting them?
Convention. In Extract Pages selected = ‘keep’ (highlight). In Delete Pages selected = ‘remove’ (fade). Dimming reads as ‘going away’ — matches Photoshop’s layer-visibility convention and Adobe Acrobat’s page-thumbnail panel.
Can I delete every page?
No. The output PDF would be empty, which is invalid. The button caps your selection at total - 1. To clear an entire document, just don’t use this tool.
Are forms, links, signatures preserved on the kept pages?
Page content is preserved exactly. Form-field values that lived on kept pages survive. Cross-page links that pointed into deleted pages become dangling — pdf-lib v1.17 doesn’t reroute. Signatures invalidate the moment the document changes (cryptographic guarantee), so re-sign after if needed.
Will bookmarks update to point to the right pages after deletion?
Bookmarks pointing to KEPT pages may now point to wrong page numbers (since pages shifted). Bookmarks pointing to DELETED pages become dangling. pdf-lib doesn’t remap these. Most users aren’t affected; if you have heavy bookmark dependencies, flag it.
Is the output smaller than the input?
Yes, roughly proportionally. Removing 30 of 100 pages produces an output ~70% the size of the original. Resources unique to deleted pages (their embedded images and fonts) are dropped. Resources shared across pages stay.

Want to extract pages instead?

Extract Pages does the inverse: click pages to keep, save them as a new PDF. Same thumbnail grid, mirrored semantics.
