How to scan documents with your phone into a PDF

Turn a few phone photos into one clean, shareable PDF — no scanner, no app to install.

For: Anyone without a scanner who needs a PDF from photos of paper documents
STEP BY STEP

The workflow

1
Convert the photos to PDF pages
Take a photo of each page, then drop them into Image to PDF. Each image becomes a page, in the order you add them.
Open JPG to PDF
2
Combine into one document (if needed)
If you converted batches separately, Merge stitches them into a single file. Drag the thumbnails to lock the page order before combining.
Open Merge PDFs
3
Compress so it sends easily
Phone photos are large. Compress gets the finished PDF under email and upload-portal limits without making the text unreadable.

WHY IT MATTERS

The case for doing this

Plenty of forms, applications, and offices still want "a PDF of the signed document," and not everyone has a scanner. Your phone is the scanner: photograph each page, convert the images to PDF, and you have a single file to send — no dedicated scanning app, no account. A few habits make the result look scanned rather than snapshotted: shoot straight down in good, even light against a contrasting surface so the page edges are clear. One honest note: this assembles photos into a PDF, it doesn't auto-crop, deskew, or boost contrast the way a dedicated scanner app might — so framing the shot well matters. Everything runs in your browser, so photos of IDs, contracts, or forms never leave your device.

COMMON MISTAKES

What to avoid

Shooting at an angle
A page photographed on a slant looks unprofessional and can crop awkwardly. Hold the phone flat and square over the page.
Low light or busy backgrounds
Dim light makes text muddy; a cluttered surface makes the page edge hard to see. Use even light and a plain, contrasting surface.
TIPS FOR THE BEST RESULTS

What works

Crop or rotate afterward if needed
If a page came out sideways or with extra background, run it through Rotate and Crop before sending.
Add pages in the right order as you go
Photograph and add pages in document order so you don't have to reshuffle later.
