Why people convert text to PDF

Plain text is portable but ugly to share. PDF is shareable but locked from edit. Text-to-PDF gives you the best of both: paginated, font-styled output that’s text-selectable + searchable + printable.

Code listings & logs
Bug reports, audit trails, server logs — share a clean monospaced PDF instead of a wall-of-text email or a copy-paste that loses formatting.
Plain-text reports
Markdown drafts, README files, meeting notes — convert to PDF for stakeholder review, signature workflows, or compliance archives.
Long-form writing
Drafts written in any plain editor (Vim, Sublime, Obsidian) can be PDF’d for printing, beta-reading, or submission with consistent typography.
Tabular & CSV data
A CSV becomes a paginated, monospaced PDF with one click — handy for offline review, audit trails, or printed copies of small datasets.
Generated content
AI outputs, scraped articles, transcripts. Convert the text to PDF to create a permanent, browseable artifact instead of leaving content trapped in chat history.

How Text to PDF works

Three steps, no signup, no uploads.

  1. STEP 1
    Paste or drop a file
Type / paste into the textarea, or drop a .txt / .md / .csv / .log / .json file (up to 5 MB). All processing stays in your browser.
  2. STEP 2
    Pick font & page size
Monospace (Courier) for code, Sans-serif (Helvetica) for prose, Serif (Times) for documents. Sizes 8–18pt. Letter or A4 paper.
  3. STEP 3
    Build & download
pdf-lib uses StandardFonts (no embed required) and word-wraps long lines. Output is text-selectable + searchable — not a raster.

What makes pdfcraft ai different

  • Same engine Chrome uses
PDFium is Google's PDF engine — the one that powers Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. We compile it to WebAssembly so it runs in your browser at near-native speed.
  • 100% local processing
Most free PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it, and stream the result back. We don't. Your file lives in your browser tab and never touches our infrastructure. Verifiable in your browser's Network panel.
  • No watermark, no signup, no daily limit
Convert 1 PDF or 1,000. We don't gate on volume because there's nothing to gate on — the engine runs on your machine.
  • Honest about limitations
When something the tool can't do (encrypted PDFs, cross-reference streams), we tell you clearly instead of failing silently. Same for partial results: sampled vs exact, embedded vs not.
  • Open standards, free engines
PDFium is BSD/Apache licensed (free for any use). We don't pay vendor license fees and pass that savings on to you (and to ourselves) as a free, ad-supported tool with no upgrade-to-pro pressure.

Frequently asked questions

Is the output PDF searchable?
Yes. Unlike rasterized PDFs (where text is just pixels), Text-to-PDF writes real glyph runs — your output is fully searchable, copyable, and screen-reader accessible. Verify by Ctrl+F inside any PDF viewer.
Which font should I pick?
Monospace (Courier) is best for code, logs, JSON, CSV — every character takes the same width, so columns stay aligned. Sans-serif (Helvetica) is best for prose and reports — clean and modern. Serif (Times) is best for long-form documents — easier on the eyes for extended reading.
What’s the max text length?
5 MB of text (~5 million characters, roughly 1,500 paginated pages at 11pt monospace). For longer texts, split into volumes and combine the PDFs with our Merge tool.
Does it support Markdown formatting?
No — Text-to-PDF treats Markdown as literal characters (# heading, **bold**, etc. render as-is). For rendered Markdown → PDF, paste your Markdown into a renderer (e.g. dillinger.io) and export. We’re evaluating a dedicated markdown-to-pdf tool — for now, this tool is plain-text-only.
Why monospace by default?
Monospace is the safe default — it preserves alignment for code, logs, and tabular data, which is what people most often paste into a text-to-PDF tool. Switch to Helvetica or Times if you’re converting prose.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Text input and PDF generation both run in your browser via pdf-lib. Verifiable in DevTools → Network.

Going the other direction?

PDF to Text extracts every word from a PDF as plain .txt — useful for indexing, version-controlling, or feeding into AI tools.
